For our first OC hide, we decided to take cachers on a relatively short jaunt in SGL 100 in northern Centre County. Parking for your quest can be found at N 41° 08.268', W 77° 56.991'. Please do not block the gate, as there is plenty of room to park several vehicles on the side.
This cache will take you for a walk along a relatively easy, open, grassy trail with an opportunity to see quite a bit of wildlife, considering how accessible the area is. On the way to the cache, we spotted a few deer, flushed out a grouse, heard some turkeys in the distance, in addition to a large variety of bird and butterfly species. In addition to these, there are many more creatures out in these woods that you may be lucky enough to spot.
Start your walk by passing the gate at the parking location, and continue straight when another path eventually leads off to the left. About 1.6 miles in from the parking coordinates, this path will end, and you'll be in a very small clearing. From here, a mere 130 ft of bushwhacking is needed to reach the cache location. That bushwhacking can be rough, or a breeze if you pick the right spot to enter the bush. You're looking for a camouflaged 50 cal ammo can.
Remember when hunting for this cache that these are state game lands. It is required that you wear a minimum of 250 square cm of blaze orange, and this should definitely be adhered to during hunting season. Personally, I would only hike in game lands on a Sunday during hunting season, because hunting is not allowed. It should also be noted that it is unlawful to be in the game lands on any day but Sunday for any purpose other than hunting (geocaching included) during the prime big game hunting period of November 15 to December 15, so please be safe and follow these regulations.
