This cache is hidden within the Windemere Basin "park". There is a trail here that provides view of the Windemere Basin and also travels through some shallow swamp habit. parking is available in a small lot off Eastport drive, but the gate may be closed through the winter months.
This cache is located just inside the parking area, and you could use the coordinates to get you to the access to the parking lot. watch for garbage and also for ticks. Cache is a small plastic tube, bring your own pen and please replace as found.
You must sign the logsheet to claim a find on any of my caches; online logs will be deleted if I don't find your name on the logsheet.
About the Windemere Basin (www.hamiltonwaterfront.com/2011/11/01/windemere-basin):
The Hamilton Waterfront Trust with assistance from the City of Hamilton and other provincial and federal agencies facilitated the restoration and development of the lands surrounding Windermere Basin. The purpose of the development project was to conduct restoration of the local ecosystem and provide natural wildlife areas and parklands for passive recreational use. The project site consisted of approximately 25 hectares of reclaimed lands surrounding the Basin that were created as a result of extensive infilling that occurred from the 1950′s to the 1990′s.
In 2007 Windermere Basin was restored as an estuarine ecosystem, providing a sanctuary for wildlife and passive recreational use. With improved water quality and habitat regeneration, Windermere Basin is a ‘healed’ area; a source of community pride; a place where citizens and visitors can witness the ongoing regeneration of the area to a healthier environment.
Windermere Basin is now a green area in an industrial waterfront. As a unique feature of the eastern gateway to the City of Hamilton, the Basin is an area where people can learn and understand about the area’s natural and cultural history. Trails will connect the Basin with other natural and cultural attractions in the surrounding area, thus facilitating public access and linkages across the entire Hamilton Waterfront.
