When I visited the Welsh Station / Kershaw Depot in Kershaw, SC, I saw a sign for Haile Gold Mine at the station, and thought it was something interesting. On the way out of town, heading northeast to a couple other OCUS virtuals, I was surprised to see the actual, very large site of Haile Gold Mine. I didn't stop, and in fact was very careful to maintain steady speed and smooth control of my car, because I had a police car behind me on my way along Gold Mine Highway (601), and I ain't from around here. Later I was pleased to learn this gold mine has a long and interesting history, and has actually recently re-opened, although under non-US ownership of OceanaGold Corporation (OceanaGold), a Canadian-Australian firm producing gold and copper.
