Description EN

Not a new location for people who have been out Geocaching before Opencaching.us existed, but hopefully I'll at least give you some new information about the area you're visiting. From the cache site, you have a nice view of the dual South Grand Island Bridges, which carry Interstate 190 across the Niagara River.

The two South Grand Island Bridges were actually built 27 years apart. The newer Northbound South Grand Island bridge was built in 1962, while the older Southbound South Grand Island bridge was built in 1935. How can you tell the difference? The piers supporting the spans that are in the water for the 1935 bridge feature stone cutwaters, while the 1962 bridge has steel plates wrapped around the stone cutwaters. Additionally, there are differences in the sway bracing on the two bridges, but I certainly have never noticed, nor can tell the difference. Me, I just know heading to Niagara Falls, newer bridge, heading to Buffalo, older bridge.

So you can park at the coordinates I give you, and it's about .25 miles to the cache. I'd stongly suggest that you leave the Riverwalk, and walk right alongside the fence seperating NOCO Energy Corp. property from public riverfront property. This way, you will avoid bushwacking through a nasty swamp!

There is quite a bit of trash in this area, I'd say most of it left by thoughtless fishermen. I myself did CITO a bag of trash when checking the coordinates before publishing (I had left the cache sitting in the woods for a week unpublished). Please bring a bag along and do some of this yourself. Except I don't expect you to trash out discarded tires on rims.

A November placement, and the bushwacking isn't too bad, but I'd suspect there's quite a bit in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. I also believe there is a lot of poison ivy in the area. And yes, there really is a beach. Cool Oh, the cache fits very snugly in it's hiding spot, please place it back the same way, and it should be fine.
