Welcome to Hawkeye Point, Iowa's highest elevation. For many years it was thought that the states highest point was Ocheyedan Mound, a much more likely-looking glacial feature about 10 miles to the southeast. However, in 1971 the National Geodetic Survey determined the true high spot was actually located here, on a privately-owned pig farm about 3 miles south of the Minnesota border.
In late February 2008 Mr. and Mrs. Sterler, owners of the farm the point is located on donated the land to Osceola County with the stipulation that it be turned into a park/monument open to the public. Since that time much work has been completed on the property with more planned for the future. More information can be found here.
To log this cache you must visit the posted coordinates where you will find a guest book to sign, it is available 24/7. While you're here be sure to go stand on the nice mosaic marker about fifty feet to the south of the guest book which marks the actual high spot.
