Description EN

This is another in a series of various types of caches, centered around the the City of Laurel Walking Tour (CLWT).  The walking tour highlights various historic sites in the city and was launched in 2006 as a cooperative effort between the City of Laurel and the Laurel Museum.  This cache will bring you to stops 4, 5, and 6 of the tour.  This will be a two part virtual cache.  You can park at both sites or easily walk between them.

Site 4 - Methodist Meeting House

Methodism was established in Laurel in teh "Upper Room" of this building in 1840.  The building served  as the meeting place for Laurel's Methodist congregation until construction of the "Old Stone Methodist Church" in 1842.

Site 5 - Old Stone Methodist Church

Built in 1842, this is the site of Laurel's first house of worship.  Remnants of the church and adjoining cemetery were removed in the 1950's.  It's successor is the First United Methodist Church on Main Street.

Site 6 - Yellow Row

Called the Yellow Row, these 12 attached units were built about 1880 as rental tenaments for mill workers.  They are the oldest row houses still standing in Prince George's County.  The mill later sold the houses to individual owners.
