The cache is located just east or north east of chimney rock. Although I never had to scramble on hands and knees, the hike is rated high due to its unique location. It's located about 9800 ft. The cache is an ammo box which contains an assortment of stuff. Pen, log book, and other stuff. Fox-3 is the most difficult of the series. To place the cache me and my hiking buddy were dropped of at Sandia Crest. It was a short walk north on the crest trail to the Chimney Canyon trail head. N 35 13.089 W 106 27.085.
Its approx. .6 of a mile down this trail. It can be easily seen if you look in the right place. (See Mike Coltrin's hiking guide to the Sandias - he has a good description of the trail) As always be careful, trail is steep. NOT a hike for small childred or animals. After placing the cache, we continued down to the junction with La Luz. Arrived at the parking lot 4.46 miles and 5 hrs later. Pack water and food. Good hunting.
