Description EN

The Cross at Devil's Punchbowl is a local landmark, being visible across a large area of the city. This is one of the "must see" locations when visiting Hamilton - the panoramic view of the Golden Horseshoe and Lake Ontario from atop the Niagara Escarpment - the stunning view of the punchbowl and the waterfall, and of course the towering cross at the center of it all.

The original cross had nearly 100 incandescent light bulbs which were later replaced with fluorescent bulbs. That cross had a single plaque, plus a cryptic line "ur watched". The original cross was recently replaced. The new cross is now illuminated by LED strip lighting. A second plaque has been added as well. Are we still watched?

There are two plaques, so I created two offset-style multicaches. One is listed here, on OpenCaching North America (hint - it's this cache). The other is listed on Terracaching.com. The two caches are in (more or less) opposite directions from the cross.

One will lead you down the Niagara Escarpment via the Bruce Trail. That cache is only a few hundred meters away, but the elevation change and the trail terrain will be challenging. Use the Devil's Punchbowl side-trail to access the Bruce Trail.

The other cache will stay on the escarpment, and you will proceed along a flat and wide trail. However, at some point you will need to leave the trail, and either hike up the creek bed or else you're looking at some pretty serious bushwacking. And the distance to the cache is nearly double.

Of course time-of-year will play a big role in when these caches are hardest and easiest.

Each cache is a 1L plastic jar with a logbook and a few small trade items. Please bring a pen.

Are you ready to choose? You won't know which is which until you visit the cross and get the needed information. Good luck and have fun. And hopefully you choose to do both!

For this cache (Devil's Punchbowl Multicache - OCNA Edition):

Go to the posted coordinates and enjoy the view. After that, turn and face the cross. you will see two brass plaques on the cross. Find the plaque which has three years listed on it. Add those three years together, then divide that sum by 1000. Add that number to the following North and West coordinates: N 43 06.718 W 79 39.202

For the other cache (Devil's Punchbowl Multicache - TC Edition):
Well, you'll have to visit that listing at: play.terracaching.com/Cache/TC96ZP
