Description EN

STOP AND HAVE YOUR PICTURE TAKEN WITH THE TRAIN TO CLAIM THIS VIRTUAL

PLEASE BE CARFULL OF TRAFFIC

Created by Southwold artist Scott McKay with a cost of  $186,000

The sculpture is a curving train made out of atmospheric corrosion resistant steel that includes a steam locomotive, a coal car, a passenger car and a caboose.

The sculpture won out over two other options because of it is low-maintenance and shelf life; it will be where Talbot Street meets Wellington Road and Sunset Drive for over 100 years.

The highest point in the sculpture is six metres high, which is why the sculpture had to be installed in pieces by a crane before being welded together.

the sculpture named “Perseverance,”  is representative of St. Thomas iN more ways than one.
