FALLing into Place: Hello, GOURDgeous (OU0D02)

United States > Washington | Regular

INTRODUCTION TO THIS SERIES:

This fall-themed series is part of a larger series covering all four seasons. You can find the other seasons on the OpenCaching website under the following titles: “Winter is Snow Joke,” “Spring It On,” and “Sweet Summertime.” Each container visually aligns with the theme and includes fun facts related to the season. The tradable trinkets are not themed, only the containers. We’d love to see your photos posted. Thanks for joining us on this adventure!

NOTES ON THIS PARTICULAR GEOCACHE:

+ We recommend wearing gloves to reach your hand into any geocache hiding spot because you never know what else may be hiding in there too!

+ Admittedly, many of my “riddles” are not very cryptic. Our children grew up with rhyming riddles I’d written for scavenger hunts that we did to celebrate special occasions each year. As they got older, our kids complained that the riddles were too easy. I explained that I could make the riddles rhyme or make them difficult, but I couldn’t do both. They preferred the rhymes. On a hiking trail, a lot of the same natural features are repeated, such as trees and rocks. It can be a challenge to come up with new rhymes about the same natural features. Therefore, many of the riddles are not difficult to solve because the priority was to create fun rhymes. However, we created this series with families in mind, so these riddles are perfect for children, but adults may want to forgo reading the riddle that follows, unless you need an additional hint.

RIDDLE:

SPOILER ALERT! This riddle is not much of a hint; it's more of a dead giveaway.

Where roots sprawl along the ground,
My hiding place can be found.
Beneath the trunk of a towering tree,
Seek and you will find me.

RIDDLE:

Stone and Wood form my roof’s peak,

Beneath which is the cache you seek.

Concealed under a roughly textured cover,

Is a fan of snow and a winter-lover.

On January 17, 2026, a small but mighty group of caching enthusiasts gathered in Pullman, WA (home of WSU Cougars, rolling wheat fields, and now… the birthplace of this wandering cache). This container was set loose to roam free across North America (and maybe beyond!), carrying a piece of Opencaching history with it.

This is a classic Moving Cache – it has no fixed coordinates. When you find it, sign the logbook, then re-hide it somewhere new.

Important rules:

Always place it in a safe & legal spot

Post the updated coordinates and a short note about the new location in your log on opencaching.us

Include a photo of the hide spot if you can

Try to move it at least a few miles from the previous location to keep the adventure going

If it gets stuck or needs maintenance, post a note

This cache celebrates the spirit of free, community-driven geocaching that OC.US stands for – no premium walls, just good hides and great adventures.

Where will the Palouse Pioneer wander next?

Grab it, move it, log it, and keep the story alive!

I am located off the Appalachian Trail. It is a short 1.0 mile hike to me with very little elevation gain from the Route 191 trail head parking area. Hike north. There is a beautiful view of the valley along the way, which is a great place to spend a few minute admiring. You can see farm land and the Delaware River in the distance.

Team Cache & Burn took an EV on a cross-country road trip to Gilby, ND, and rarely found caches to hunt at charging stations—what a letdown! So, we’re powering up the fun with this series, hiding caches at electric vehicle charging stops. Whether you’re zipping along in a sleek EV or rumbling in on dino-juice fumes, everyone’s welcome to hunt for this treasure!

Sign the logbook and rehide the cache exactly as found. Be stealthy—muggle drivers or passersby might be nearby! If the cache needs maintenance, drop a log to let us know.

Do us EV drivers a favor and hide a cache at your local supercharger for us!

Note: There is no need to mess with any electrical equipment. Respect the property and other visitors. Please don’t block charging stations unless you’re actively charging. Happy caching, and let’s keep the electric adventure rolling!

Selfie at Albertsons Stadium (OU0CEB)

United States > Idaho | No container

Took a trip down to Boise to watch my cougars play in the 2025 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and was shocked to see this great Pac-12 Stadium didn't have a Virtual Cache. To log this cache simply snap a selfie anywhere at Albertsons stadium. Make sure the stadium or the infamous blue turf is visible in the picture. If you don't want to take a selfie just snap a picture with a personal item.

Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, is the iconic home of the Boise State Broncos football team in the Pac-12 Conference and hosts the annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Originally opened in 1970 as Bronco Stadium with a capacity of 14,500 seats and a standard green AstroTurf field, it has undergone several expansions over the decades and now holds 36,387 fans. It was renamed Albertsons Stadium in 2014 after the grocery chain Albertsons (founded in the Boise area) purchased the naming rights.

The stadium's most distinctive feature is its vibrant blue artificial turf installed in 1986. This was a bold marketing move by athletic director Gene Bleymaier to make Boise State stand out nationally. It became the first non-green playing surface in football history and remained the only one among major college programs for nearly 20 years.
