This cache was made by the children in The Homework Club childcare who participate in geocaching and wanted to make one of their own.
As it turned out, we had an unusual situation that happened and so we are commemorating the geocache to Midnight, our 17 year old cat a pound rescue, who died, but not because he was old. One day, I woke up late on a Saturday and expected to see my cat asking for breakfast. He wasn't around. We had been treating him for a hyperthyroid condition, as many older cats tend to get this. He had gone from 18 lbs. to 8 lbs. in three years. He also had to have his teeth pulled out since they had decayed and become infectious, probably causing the hyperthyroid condition. He was still losing weight and looked quite thin after several months on an a medication to block the hyperthyroid condition. Anyway, since he never showed up, we went looking for him. We couldn't find him. It wasn't unusual for him to remain away several days as he was a male cat, but in his condition he was rarely out of the house. So this worried me. We, then, after three days, after checking with neighbors, and making sure he wasn't locked away in someone's garage by mistake. We looked under the house to see if he crawled away and died. Then we decided to check with Animal Control, and put in a report of a missing cat. He wasn't there when we went to go look, but a day later an agent came by our house asking if a cat they had was ours. Well, as it turned out the picture she showed us was Midnight! She then told me they had euthanized him three days ago! What!?!?! And she wanted me to pay the $50.00 euthanization fee! (I don't believe in euthanization.) Since they weren't open on Sundays, the person who picked up my cat turned it in on Monday, and they euthanized him that very day, without waiting to see if someone was looking for him. It turned out that someone had cut his nails down to the paw, she said. I was so mad! I told them I was not going to pay for the euthanization and demanded that they give him back to me. It took a couple of days, a letter, an email, and phone calls for them to release his body back to me. As it turned out, his nails were cut, but they were not bloodied, so they were cut after he died, I suspected. So we buried him near the location of this geocache and commemorate this geocache to him. He lived a long and happy life.
The cache is large enough to hold a log book and several items. Hopefully, it will be a host to many traveling bugs or coins and maybe to some birds, too.
The cache is obtainable from the sidewalk. But you must park around the corner as there is not parking on the street where it is located. Although it is accessible for wheelchairs, the height may cause a problem. It is near a busy street corner, so caution is recommended. It is a hidden camoed altoid tin box.
