Description EN

To access this cache you will need to visit the Jockeys Ridge State Park Visitor Center.  There you can get the Tracks in the Sand trail map that will help you on your way.

*Warning* This cache will take you on a hike across the sand dunes.  It could take you an hour or more for this hike so bringing water along could be important.  Also use sunscreen and be aware of your surroundings.  Small children may get tired out but will love playing in "The biggest sand box EVER!" as some kids called it on our way to create this cache.  Please read the additional warnings the park has posted for traveling on the dunes.

Be aware that this area has limited access hours.  You can find them on the website at http://www.jockeysridgestatepark.com/

From their site here are the posted hours:

November-February: 8 am — 6 pm Visitor Center: 9 am — 5 pm

March, October: 8 am — 8 pm Visitor Center: 9 am — 5 pm

April, May, September: 8 am — 8 pm Visitor Center: 9 am — 6 pm

June – August: 8 am — 9 pm Visitor Center: 9 am — 6 pm

Do not enter the park while it is close.

After you stop at the visitor center make your way along the board walk onto the dunes.

Now you can allow your GPS to help lead you but enjoy the self guided nature trail (Tracks in the Sand) on your way.

When you get to the posted coordinates be sure to not cross any of the roped off areas as they are off limits and even if your GPS thinks you need to go in there is no reason to for this cache.  You should be near Point 8 on the guided trail.

To Log this cache

1. At the coordinates posted you will find an information board near by.  Read about the project to protect the shore in this area.  Find the section about the Oyster Sill and take note of the number of feet of shells that are used.  This will be the password to log the cache

2. Go to the post that is the farthest to the right while looking at the water.  Set your camera on top of the post and center the pole with the Osprey nest in your shot and take a picture of the shore and the sound and post it with your log.

This will allow everyone to see how this project has helped change the face of this shoreline over time.
