I was visiting some family nearby and wanted to get some geocaching in while in the area. Imagine that! There are a few other OCNA caches scattered within an hour driving distance from this location, but I did not have enough time to travel to them unfortunately. Maybe next time.
A Groundspeak geocache brought me to this location. I'm glad it did for several reasons. 1) Very nice Memorial, 2) nice offset (GS) geocache, 3) found a locationless geocache for the Terracaching site inside the Memorial display case and lastly 4) to create a worthy visit for cachers on the OCNA site.
Although there is a Groundspeak offset cache starting very near this point, this is a OCNA only cache.
You are required to visit this site in person and post a picture with you and/or your GPS with any part of the Memorial in the background. There is a confirmation code required to log this cache. Please do not include the confirmation code in your photo.
At the base of the display case, there is a plaque titled: The Hurricane Katrina Memorial Story. You will find the confirmation code on the plaque. The confirmation code is the 5th word, 1st paragraph of the right column of the Hurricane Katrina Memorial Story (without the quotation marks).
