Beschrijving EN

The 1865-1866 built Hamlin House, at 432 Franklin Street in the Allentown section of Buffalo currently houses the strange combination of a Restaurant (cleverly named the Hamlin House Restaurant), and an American Legion Post, which has been at that location since 1977. Both are open to the public, so why not go in and check out this historic building? Super cheap prices, as you would expect at an American Legion Post, apply.I can't speak for the restaurant though, looks a little pricey.

Here is a nice webpage on the Hamlin House from Buffaloah.com (Buffalo Architecture-History). It has pictures (click to enlarge), and some good history and architectural observations, none of which I understand, on the building. There is some inaccurate info there though, the Legion Post owns the building, and leases it to the restaurant; I served with two of the current officers of the Post in the Army National Guard. Buffaloah.com doesn't even seem to think the legion post is there any more! That being said, I could have easily obtained permission to place this Bit on the grounds, but you need not stray off the sidewalk and public right of way to find this magnetic BitCache.

It's only one day a year, but this place does a booming business before, during, and after the horrifically drunken spectacle that is the Buffalo St. Patrick's Day Parade. Stop by for lots of food and drink at dirt cheap prices. There is a modest $1 admission charge that day.

If you're not a big fan of looking like a nutjob while looking for something while urban caching like myself, use the hint, it's a dead-giveaway. Note: Franklin Street is a one way street, going from South To North.
