This cache will take you along the Western Maryland Rail Trail, which used to be owned by Western Maryland Railroad, and is now managed by Maryland DNR. Although this is only a short portion of the trail, the entire trail covers more than 20 miles and runs almost parallel to the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. You can hike, bike, and skate along this trail. The trail is a paved trail, flat terrain, and is mostly handicapped accesible. The terrain rating for this cache is mainly for the hike to the cache.
The cache will take you to the site of the remains of the old railroad that was used to deliver coal to the area. The confimation code is the second word of the second paragraph on the plaque. Although optional, pictures of you and/or your GPS at the site are very much welcome.
