The building in which I teach tries to provide experiences that go beyond the standard academic coursework and one such example is a series of classes offered to students called "Mini-courses". Educators offer some sort of non-academic class that meets once a week for an hour and students sign up for a course that interests them. Guess what my mini-course is? Yep, it's geocaching.
I had about 20 students sign up for the class. They were willing to hike around the school grounds in the frost to look for temporary hidden caches, they listened to me rant about poor hides and poor logs, they learned about good cache placements and well written logs, they were clued in on my love for terrain caches, and they even got to look for and log a few real caches.. This cache is their final exam - don't you wish your final exam required you to find a cache?
What, you want to know about the cache? Well, Ok, I'll let you in on a few secrets. I can tell you that there will be certain times of the day that muggles will make this tough. I can also tell you...wait, wait, hold on a minute. If I tell you any more, the Final will be too easy for the students. So that's all you get. Deal with it.
