You may have seen these benchmarks as you drive around the state. They
are those three foot tall concrete post with numbered wood signs bolted
to two sides. On the top is a bronze disk. They are Montana State
Highway Commission Benchmarks. Some of these Benchmarks are stamped with
a number which is the elevation at the benchmark location. This
Benchmark is one of the ones which was stamped with the elevation. Cache is with in the highway right of way. Do Not park on the highway. Walk to the cache site from near by parking areas. To
log this Benchmark you will need the Password. The Password is the six
numbers stamped on the benchmark (do not enclude the dot). No cache is
at the site. For fun indicate how close to the stamped elevation your
GPS was (but don't indicate what the elevation was). I have additional Helena area benchmark caches listed on other geocaching sites as well. Those sites are: Geocaching.com, GPSgames.com, Terracaching.com, and Opencaching.com.
