Description

Wooden nickels have become one of my favorite things to find in a cache or directly trade with other cachers. I've just created my 3rd personal signature item nickel, at the time of this listing. I've also created a Flickr album of my (mostly) wooden nickel collection, though it also includes some poker chips and other similar items.
This site is home to the Wooden Nickel Historical Museum and The World's Largest Wooden Nickel, as featured in the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" newspaper cartoon on 27 November 2002.
Availability: 24/7 (The museum, itself, is open Mon-Fri, 10am to 4pm. Weekends and special hours are by appointment.)
Logging Requirement: To confirm your visit, please include a photo of you and / or you GPS along with your log with the giant nickel.
Since the north side is dedicacted to different organization, each year, I'd appreciate it if you can get a picture of that side, but it is not a requirement.
Note: Although you will be able to complete this cache without entering the museum, I would recommend trying to visit while they are open. The staff gives each visitor a souvenir wooden nickel which reads "I visited the Wooden Nickel Museum and saw the WLWN", and a booklet that tells the history of wooden nickels, our company, the WLWN and museum to each visitor.
Special thands to Amanda of Old Time Wooden Nickel Co. for her assistance with this cache.

Found this on RoadsideAmerica.com and didn't realize it was listed here until 04/02/2012. This was an accidental cache since we weren't out geocaching, just seeing the sights while we were visiting San Antonio. We did not go inside the museum as it was closed when we were there.

And a FTF with my son. The museum wasn't open, but we got a picture of the front and back. We dropped one of our signature wooden nickels in the mail slot. I'm glad to make an OCNA cache one of my major milestones. Now...off to Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Museum.
