DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY

"ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL'

DEDICATED TO ALL WHO BRAVELY SERVED WITH HONOR AND DISTINCTION IN WAR AND PEACE.

IN MEMORY OF J.C. MATTESON AND THE BRAVE RAMRODS OF THE ARMY 2ND BATTALION 2ND INFANTRY REGIMENT 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION WHO WERE KILLED IN ACTION BATTLE OF FALLUJAH, IRAQ NOVEMBER 2004.

Courtesy of The Post-Journal, Jamestown, NY:

The black granite monument honoring a local man who was killed in Iraq has been brought to its new home.  On 27 August 2008, the J.C. Matteson monument was erected at its new home on the triangle between Forest Avenue and Busti-Stillwater Road - just in time to meet the Busti Hamlet Development Group's self-imposed deadline. The group had hoped to have the monument in place by Labor Day.

The monument was donated by the AMVETS post on Fluvanna Avenue after the post closed earlier this year. The monument was constructed in honor of Sgt. Matteson, a U.S. Army soldier from Southwestern Central School who was killed in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004.

JC Matteson Memorial

I spotted this memorial on the way to the GeoWoodstock IX Pow Wow event.  My uncle (ROOKIE49) and I stopped and noticed there was no cache (at the time) here.   A GC.com cache was published this morning, which is part of a series in Busti.  You may wish to check that out, as well.

Logging Requirements: Post a photo of yourself and / or our GPS at the memorial.  With your back to the front of the memorial, look for a large square brick, just to the right of the bench.  Enter the 3rd line (no spaces) as the Log Password.

1 31 July 2011 Barbershopdru Found it

Hopefully I can figure out all the posting rerquirements for this virtual.  I love a good military memorial, so it was a nice two-fer for Rayman and myself on our journey today! Not too fond of having my picture taken, especially with the sun in my eyes, but Rayman did a good job!

Thanks for being a part of the Busti tour!!!!

1 31 July 2011 Rayman Found it

I honestly never thought I would find myself in Busti to attempt this virtual, especially after Mr.Yuck told me such good things about it. But here I am, caching today with my friend BarbershopDru a little bit in Jamestown, then to do the mini Busti geotrail. First we tried to find the physical cache here, which took us quite awhile to find, then we checked out the memorial. Very nicely done! I have to say the beautiful granite benches retain a lot of heat from the sun as my rear end quickly found out. A very nice virtual, thanks for placing it.

Stopped by on the way home from GeoWoodstock, so I could log dad's new OCUS virtual.  He figured it was time I had my own account on this site.

1 02 July 2011 Recommendation Mr.Yuck Found it

Yes, found on the way back from GeoWoodstock. You might want to edit the "short description", Busti is in New York, not Pa. Wink This was an excellent memorial, thanks for pointing it out. Fallujah was indeed an ugly battle over in Iraq, many insurgents there. I'm the putz who told all of our party the wrong block, but I will blame that on viewing the cache page on my cell phone. Looked in the bushes briefly for the new Geocaching.com listing without coordinates thinking we might get lucky, but no dice. Thanks for this virtual cache.
