Description   EN

I was driving through the area one day, and surprisingly saw that no one had listed this yet. There is parking along the side of the road. There are two granite memorials there. Please take the time to read both. There is one that lists the names from Bowie of those who served during armed conflict with two words at the top. That is the log password. While it is optional, you may also take a picture at the site to post with your log.

From the City of Bowie web site: Veterans Park - This memorial park contains open space and a memorial to those residents of Bowie who have served in the military during armed conflict and those who have given their lives in service to their country. It is the site of the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.

I wanted to come and see this. Plus on the way I could clear out some of the competitor's caches Wink while I was in the area. I've been by here several times, but never noticed this very nice memorial. Thanks for showing it to me. TFTC

2918.  OK, this is getting to be a trend.  First, I can't make it too easy for sfcchaz or cycleangela to get their FTF's.  Second, I seem to be on a roll with verteran memorials.  Finally, this was another new cache near home, that I didn't see until it was actually published.

I have been by here any number of times - on my way to / from my dad's place, on the way home from work (if the Beltway is backed up), or just out caching.  However, I've never stopped.

I parked on on Park Avenue.  Not sure why Google Maps calls it Zug Road.

On the way to GZ, I discoverd something else interesting - The Freedom Tree.  "With the vision of universal freedom for all mankind, this tree is dedicated to MAJ John W. Lafayette and all Prisoners of War and Missing in Action.  1973."

Thanks for getting me to stop.

Happy Trails!
