The Historical Ice House of Kramertown in McComb, MS
1898 McComb Ice House & Creamery was founded
1923 Front storage area burns, later rebuilt
1926 Complex grows to largest in the world, capable of loading 50 rail cars simultaneously
1950’s Rear storage area burns, and the advent of refrigeration ends ice facility era
1977 Demolition began on north end of property
1978 Demolition halted; restoration began by N. B. Gillis, Jr.
1980 Placed on the National Register of Historic Places
This cache is being placed by request of property owner. After over hearing me and another cacher talking about geocaching he asked what geocaching was. We told him and he was all about putting one here at this historical building.
Depending on the time of day there could be no muggles to lots of muggles. (You might meet property owner at anytime.) You might want this one to be the last on list after a long day of caching. So you can step inside and relax for awhile. (Who knows I might be there as well.)
