Opis EN

The coordinates for this geocache take you to the front door of the Vashon Public Library--a portal that can transport you anywhere you want to go, particularly if you love to read.

This geocache was placed with the library's permission, and it is full of treasures.  Bring some swag to swap!

Note that the cache is only accessible during library hours.  And while no employee or librarian interaction is necessary or required, questions and conversations with staff are welcome!

NOW...where can you find a geocache within this expansive and wonderful place filled with rows of books, magazines, microfiche, and computers?  Here is a clue for you: Among the analog tools at the library, look for a lexicon, a compendium of words, and the like...and there you will find this geocache.

Fun fact about libraries: Did you know the Benjamin Franklin's is responsible for public library in the United States?  First, he started a private library in Philidelphia where members could join by paying a fee.  Franklin had books (mostly about education and religion) shipped in from London to fill the library.  Non-members could also access the books if they paid a fee.  More "membership libraries" were founded across America into the mid-nineteenth century.

In 1790, a town in Massachusetts named itself after Franklin. The residents of the town asked Franklin to send them a bell.  But Franklin chose instead to send a collection of books, which he thought would be of greater importance to the community. The citizens of Franklin voted to make the collection freely available to all residents.  And voila!  The first public library in the United States was born.  Read more about it here!
