Yummy....

What? Anytime you can enjoy a philly steak omlette after finding a nice ammo box in the woods...the results are certainly most yummy.

It would be criminal of me to not give a smidgen more detail regarding my adventures in the Red Oak Ocean this morning. So here's some stuff. Followed in Szuchie fashion by some more stuff. And possibly some things should I really get off track.

When I noticed an opencache that touted itself as a long hike in the woods, with ridges, chests, and ammo boxes it was dang near impossible for me to restrain myself. But I did. The white coat the nice doctors gave me to keep me warm helps. To the bat telegraph machine I went, and after a flurry of dots, spaces, x's and o's, I had drafted Chicky into my fantasy opencaching league and plans were designed to meet up at an ungodly hour to go massage metal boxes in the privacy of the woods.

Of course Chicky's idea of X-o'clock "ish" is not nearly detailed enough, and with no official agenda published, revised, notarized and approved by a justice of the peace, I had to take matters into my own hands. Eventually I was able to drag Chicky into the car and we headed off A-Team style to Chestnut Ridge complete with explosions, machine gun fire, sweet jumps and unnecessary amounts of gold jewelry adorned around our necks. Sure it isn't too stylish, but how could anything be less fashionable than those lame assed skinny jeans? I mean really - is there a reason kid enjoy the feeling of having their junk in a vice grip? Maybe something to look into…anyway...

To enhance our adventure, I decided to drive random back roads meandering ever so slightly to the northleft. Eventually we decided to use the GPS, and after taking a u-turn somewhere near Clymer New York we were back on track and arriving at the parking coords just as the sky started to glow from the morning sun. Happily, Chicky and I hit the trail, and after a near fatal tangent, we were giddily enjoying the sounds of the early morning forest before the hustle and bustle of the day got underway. I love this section of trail as I have traveled them before on Cayuga-inspired expeditions - so it was my extremely pleasure to be able to share these superb sights with my trail mate Chicky.

Cayuga will be dismayed to know that despite my best efforts, I didn’t fall, land on my butt, or dive headfirst into the ravine. God knows I tried, but I’m just not as talented as I give myself credit for. Damn me and all my grace, poise and eloquence. Eventually we reached the “interesting place” coordinates, and headed off into the wilderness along unmarked but very followable trails. Soon we were cuddled up to some very majestic red oaks and we nuzzled them eagerly as I know Cayuga would not approve of infidelity…you know how those dirty dirty beech trees can be. Trashy little vixens.

After an awesome hike, we arrived at the cache location. There were plenty of spots to tickle, but eventually Chicky did the deed and snagged the cache. I was proud of her. To celebrate we did a reproduction of Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks complete with theatrics, emoting and several costume changes. It was glorious. We handcrafted a special cache log for Cayuga, and rehid the cache as we had found it. There were a few reprises as we always like to do at least one encore, and before we knew it we were wandering back through the woods along the ridge towards our car.

We have to thank Cayuga for this fine fine opencache offering. In our best old guy style, we’ve been bitching and moaning that despite everyone’s eagerness to populate the area with OC’s, no one’s bothered to hide our favorite kind of cache. So we are grateful to you Mr. Crew for all you do to keep us entertained (and subsequently full of Greek food). You know how easily we get distracted (and that we also never carry cash). This is an excellent adventure - thank you.

With love and sloppy oak tree kisses,
