Back in April of 2001, my then-fiancé and I were planning a wedding for the upcoming June and it was time for her bridal shower in Spokane. That meant I was free for the day and so I took a little drive down this way to look for some early caches hidden by Ry Jones. I had no problems with Eggcellent (it was a fun little hike and bushwhack for me at the time), but this one gave me fits. The coordinates had me on the south side of the nearby creek and after wading back and forth I gave up and started walking back toward the car. Then, a few score of yards from the posted coordinates, I spotted an area that looked just like the spoiler photo that Ry had posted back then, but I came up empty there as well. I had my first-ever DNF.
To make a long story short, Ry contacted me after that and confirmed that his coordinates were off and the container had walked away. He replaced it almost immediately (and updated the coordinates) and I always planned to get back to try again, but time has a way of getting away from you. This weekend my now-wife and son are on a trip to visit family up in Calgary so I again had a free day, and I made a point of driving back down here to clear up this old DNF.
I don't remember where I parked last time - I don't remember going through the gate and down the semi-steep hillside - but I likely took the same route. This outing had a happier ending, though, as I was able to go right to the container and make the find. I have to say, it brings a sense of happiness and closure to rectify a 17 year old DNF!
I took nothing and dropped in one of my Lackey tags, a Moun10Bike Geocoin, and a Magic: The Gathering tag.
