In 1829 Louis Stephen Le Couteulx de Chaumont donated the property the first Catholic Church in Buffalo. What you see here is the third building to house the church.
The original building was constructed of hand-hewn lumber harvested from a forest that ocupied what is now Delavan Avenue.
In 1843 the wooden structure was replaced by a brick building. This building met its demise in 1885 when it was destroyed by fire.
In 1889 the Gothic church you see before you was opened. The first services celebrated the Feast of Saint Louis.
