Descriere EN
Located very nearby stands a carousel horse.  Why it is here remains a mystery.  Who placed it here?  Why was it abandoned?  We may never know the answer, enjoy the mystery and the cache.  Cheers.

The Herschell-Spillman Carousel in Myrtle Beach was built in 1912 and was originally located at the Pavilion Amusement Park in downtown Myrtle Beach. The Pavilion closed in September of 2006, and in July 2007, the Herschell-Spillman Carousel was brought to the "Pavilion Nostalgia Park" at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. It is one of only 15 working Herschell-Spillman carousels left in this country.

In May, 2003, fifty carousel horses were completed and put on view at Myrtle Square Mall's Carousel Court and food court. They remained there until the Sun Fun Festival 2003, when they became a part of the festival parade, then they were displayed at locations throughout the city for the rest of the summer. Businesses, groups and individuals paid $5,000 to sponsor a horse. The sponsors selected the design for each horse from sketches submitted by local artists. At the end of the summer, the fiberglass horses were auctioned off, and the money raised was used to benefit the effort to restore the Rivoli Theater. The Rivoli Theater was not restored, and now the horses, owned by businesses or individuals, have become scattered and often hard to locate.

This stalion may be an original HS carousel horse. This cache is placed with permission of the HOA.
Note:  This cache went live on Christmas day 2013.
