Description EN

This cache will place you in three states at once. The gap through the Cumberland Mountains was first used by Elk, Bison, and indians. Later it was used by Long Gun Hunters and then settlers.

You can reach the cache site from either the main Cumberland Gap NP visitor center or the Iron Forge

trail head parking lot. The Iron Forge parking lot is at the end of Pennalyn Ave in Cumberland Gap, TN.

N36 36.063 W083 40.162 for the parking lot. Elevation gain from this parking lot about 400 feet and the gate is locked at sunset.

You will note historical signs and the Iron Forge. This area was of major importance during the Civil War and when looking at VA history is refered to as the wedge.

Verification requirment: Post a photo of your GPSr on one of the information plaques at the site in your log.

Enjoy the hunt, the view and the history.

Additional waypoints
Symbol Type Coordinates Description
Parking area --- Trail head parking. Also parking to visit the Iron Forge another historical point of interest.
Interesting place --- Cumberland Gap National Historic Site visitor center and alternate parking. The hike from here is longer and more difficult because of the greater elevation change.
