Description   EN

The round house was built in the mid-70s as a prototype for a development that never happened. When the developer began to experience financial difficulties, the rest of the property was sold and developed as "A Place at the Beach".

It's been called the "Spaceship House" or  the "Jetsons house" by locals due to its futuristic concrete form, which is intended to make the house hurricane proof.

Additional information on the house seemed to be hard to come by.  If you have any additional information, please share.

1. Please post a photo of yourself and/or your GPS with the house visible and give your impressions of the location.  Since this is private property, you'll mostly likely need to take you photo from the sidewalk, though pictures from the water (Main Creek) would earn extra bonus points.

2. In order to log a find, you need to have visited the spot indicated.  That is, at least have been close enough to actually see the house and get pictures, not necessarily been at the posted coords.

I visit family in Surfside Beach most summers and have enjoyed caching in the area and thought this was a good way for me to place a cache in the area.  I'd also like to thank donbadabon for allowing me to add to his Odd Spots series.

Very cool house (but if you get up close the aliens that built it must have only been 3 feet tall.  An average sized person would clonk their heads while trying to make it into the front door.

As the place was ''on the MLS" with a For Sale sign in place and the front gate open we took liberties to wander into the yard and have a look about.  The view of the water from the deck was nice.  If you get a chance talk under the structure for an unusual echo (sort of alien).

If the place was taller, would consider buying this place, as it appears from the solid construction that it may be the only survivor should the area get a direct hit from a hurricane.Laughing

Found this one w/ my son Mic.

PS:  This was our first OC find.  Frustrated w/ trying to hide caches on GC, I looked and found an alternative in this site.  Was able to hide 2 caches w/ 30-minutes approval and going live for others to find w/ no BS.  Hope to see OC grow in popularity as reviewers are not so uptight tyrants.

I'm in SurfSide helping to move my brother to the area. While here I have to find any OCUs cache that I can manage to fit in.

Spaceships. A CO I almost know. Nearby. The wife actually wants to see the house. A rare OCus cache. What more does or take to get me to travel the 4.46 miles to see this one

NOTHING I'm here and saw the invasion from the 70's. (913) 900/11/2

FTF, and the first find of an cache in the state of SC!

K heard about on a geocaching podcast, checked it out a few weeks ago and noted that (at the time) there were only two caches listed in SC, and neither was close to home. He noted their locations and went on with life.

A few weeks later, he & S were in Myrtle Beach attending a convention. As a treat, they decided to have lunch in Murrell's Inlet before heading home. After being seated on the restaurant patio overlooking the waterfront, K looked across the marsh, saw the spaceship house, and remembered that it was a virtual cache! After lunch, they went to the car and grabbed the GPSr, then walked out on the boardwalk as far as they could go, grabbing a few pix of the cache site at the end of the pier.

Thanks for listing this cache, and thanks to for re-introducing virtuals like this one to the caching community!!
