Rev. Horace Ulrich Keener was a Methodist Episcopal Circuit-Rider, and the first resident missionary of the Echota Mission, a Church-boarding school, established in 1850 for Indians remaining after "The Trail of Tears". He was a Preacher-teacher at Echota until his death in 1856. Rev. Horace Ulrich Keener was the1st resident missionary to Cherokee Indians. Appointed by Holston Conference, he lived in this log cabin known as the original parsonage built in 1847.
