Today Niagara Square is surrounded by government and commercial buildings. But in the early days it was a desirable residential address. One of the central squares of Joseph Ellicott's original design for Buffalo Village the City of Buffalo has grown up around it. Today the square is home to a monument to President McKinley, who was assassinated during the Pan-American Exposition in 1901. It is in the shadow of Buffalo City Hall.
